Final project: Motion and shutter speed in photography

-----First, Look at everyone's triptychs and diptychs and Comment on 5. Talk about what they did well and if you have any suggestions for future photos.

We are learning about shutter speed. Look at these camera simulators and experiment with different shutter speeds.

Choose one of the following assignments to complete for your final 1st quarter assignment.

Option 1. Shoot for motion blur and practice with the three techniques discussed in the following link: panning, lens zooming and long exposures. Post 6 motion blur photos to your blog and a sentence under each photo describing how you achieved the desired results. Post the shutter speed you used while taking the photos.

Option 2.   Jumping
Look at the work of Phillipe  Halsman and his jumping series photos.

Photograph people jumping and create a series of six to post together in some way.
Post the shutter speed you used while taking the photo.

Diptych and Triptych assignment

1. look at your classmates color photos and comment on 6 of them about their use of color and how they composed the picture.

2. Finish any assignments you are missing

Read this link about the 30 Photos that changed the world and write a two paragraph reflection about 3 of the photos. Include what the photo is about and your opinion of it.:

4. In class practice triptych.
 •Take 3 photos or use three photos from your blog which go together visually to make a triptych. Edit your photos in Photoshop. Make a new document and size it to be a 9×16 or 16×9 at 200 resolution
•Go back to your edited three photos and crop each to 3×5 or 5×3 at 200 resolution.
•Move each image into your triptych and re-size if necessary.
•Layout your images any way your like to make an interesting triptych
•Add a subtle low key background under the three photos. Find the background on google. Make sure it has a large resolution size.
•Merge layers and save as a jpg.
•Post your triptych photo to your blog Label it practice

5. Homework: shoot photos for your
-diptych -polar opposites and
-triptych- theme of three photos that go together
You will have time in class to put them together on photo shop.
Post your final diptych and triptych to your blog and title them creatively.

All of these assignments are due  Wednesday march 18th.

2pts 1. Did you edit your photos?
2pts 2. Does your triptych have a theme? does your diptych follow the polar opposites prompt?
2pts 3. Does your back ground add to the photo arrangement? How much attention did you pay to detail? Did you just throw your photos on a rectangle and call it a triptych?
3pts 4. How creative is the design of the diptych, triptych and photos?
2pts 5. Did you use skills we have learned so far in taking your photos?
2pts 6. Effort, how much?
2pts 7. Did you title and write an artist statement next to each final diptych and triptych? An Artist statement describes your image and why you did what you did. Did you have a deeper meaning?

Review color, look at a few more color example photographs
-Make a collage from magazine cutouts using one of the color contrasts(complementary, analogous, monochromatic, warm vs cool, bright vs dull)  .  Due at the end of class.

-Take a portrait photo projecting an image onto a person. Using the color contrasts.  This one is monochromatic

Portrait Critique and Basic Editing on photoshop

Today in class we will look at everyone's photos
Fill out the critique form for at least 6 other peoples photos
Use what we have learned so far in class to help you critique a photo. Critiques can be comments about things the photographer is doing well, things they need to improve, or ideas that could improve the creativity of the photo.

If time we can start editing in class
Use the critiques you get in class to help you decide what to edit in photoshop
-look at cropping
-lighting
-contrast
-saturation

Make edits on each of the portrait photos on photoshop, save as a jpeg and post the edited photo's to your blog.


PHOTO 2 Homework Assignment
9 photos total all posted and labeled to your blog
5 photos of the same subject with different exposures. This is called bracketing.
2 photos demonstrating dept of field. One background blurred, one background and foreground in focus
1 photo of motion that is frozen and crisp
1 photo of blurred motion (panning, or long exposure)
